3D Areola and Nipple Medical Tattooing
Post-Mastectomy Reconstruction
Led by Jodie Hegarty Specialist in Post-Mastectomy Reconstruction
At The Medi Spa, we’re proud to offer 3D Areola & Nipple Medical Tattooing, a transformative treatment designed for clients following mastectomy, breast surgery, or gender reassignment. Performed by clinic founder Jodie Hegarty, the first specialist in the North West trained in the advanced VMM® 3D Areola Tattoo technique, this service combines medical artistry with compassion and care to help you feel like you again.
Using specialist medical-grade pigments, this procedure carefully replicates the illusion of a realistic, three-dimensional areola and nipple, custom-designed to suit your body and skin tone. Whether you’re looking to rebuild confidence post-cancer treatment, restore symmetry after surgery, or enhance existing pigmentation, this bespoke treatment is fully tailored to your personal needs.
What Happens During the Treatment?
The journey begins with a thorough, one-on-one consultation, where Jodie will talk through your medical history, surgery background, and desired outcome. Your input will guide the design process, from size and shape to placement and colour, ensuring a truly personalised result. Temporary markers and pigment testing are used to create a natural effect before tattooing begins.
The treatment typically takes place over two sessions, spaced 6–8 weeks apart, with each session lasting up to 3 hours. The area may appear red for up to 36 hours post-treatment, and a sterile dressing will be applied to support the healing process.
Does it Hurt?
Most clients report minimal discomfort, describing the sensation as tolerable and often less painful than expected. A full explanation of what to expect during and after the procedure will be provided in your consultation, along with numbing options if needed.
Who Is This Treatment For?
This treatment is suitable for anyone who has:
-
Undergone a single or double mastectomy
-
Received breast augmentation or reconstruction surgery
-
Had gender reassignment surgery
-
Experienced significant scarring or pigment loss around the areola area
This procedure is not just about aesthetics, it’s about restoring confidence and reclaiming your body after trauma or surgery.
Aftercare & Healing
You’ll receive comprehensive aftercare advice and complimentary products to support your healing. It’s important to follow these guidelines closely to ensure optimal results and reduce the risk of infection. Healing time between sessions is essential, and pigment will soften by around 40% as the skin settles.
A sensitivity patch test is required before your treatment, and certain lifestyle factors (e.g. avoiding caffeine, alcohol, sun exposure, and blood thinners) should be considered in the days leading up to your appointment.
